Believes that the EU needs to increase its production in the aquaculture sector, while taking quality, sustainability and environmental aspects into account and being a role model in this regard; points out that, in Europe, aquaculture (the farming of fish, shellfish and aquatic plants) produces nearly 20% of fish products and directly employs some 85 000 people;
