Emphasises the importance of the special action of the European Capital of Culture as a catalyst for the cultural and economic regeneration of cities; stresses the need for additional funding for this special action to meet the additional costs incurred as a result of the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and rampant inflation; calls on the Commission, therefore, to increase the funding of the Melina Mercouri Prize, which has been endowed with EUR 1.5 million for several years; calls on the Commission to consider allocating funding for the establishment of "European Artisanal Craft Routes", highlighting the value of local traditions by reinvigorating the local craft sector, in the wake of the Regulation on the protection of geographical indications (GIs) for craft and industrial products;
