The EPP Group does not share the criticism of the recent conclusions of the Home Affairs Ministers as stated in the amended paragraph 39 of the resolution on Afghanistan. On the contrary, we welcome them as balanced and realistic. Additionally, we do not share the call on the European Commission to draft legislation for humanitarian visas as stipulated in paragraph 40. We believe that the European Union should shoulder its share of moral responsibility towards those individuals who have supported the international effort in Afghanistan over the last 20 years and whose lives are in peril today. In relation to the description of the situation in Afghanistan, the reasons why it has developed in such a direction as well as potential lessons learned the resolution reflects the position of the EPP Group.
