Recognises the necessity of maintaining and using genetic resources for long-term food security and to broaden the genetic base of modern plant and animal breeding programmes; supports the concept of access and benefit sharing but urges pragmatic and enabling implementation of Regulation (EU) No 511/2014 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1866 so that breeders are not deterred by complexity and cost from using wild material to introduce new traits such as pest and disease resistance, nutritional quality and environmental resilience; insists on the need to maintain and develop the performance of local breeds, given their ability to adapt to the characteristics of their native environment;
