Highlights the opportunities to be found for consumers, SMEs and e- retailers as well as the postal sector itself in the growing parcel market, both within and across Member States´ borders; stresses, however, that in order to benefit from growth in this area, services such as cross-border parcel delivery must be affordable, accessible and available with price transparency and sufficient delivery features such as track and trace facilities and interoperability of delivery services;

Recalls the provision of postal services are essential to the social, economic and territorial cohesion of the EU and play a particularly important role in rural and remote areas, as outlined in Article 3(2) and Recitals 19, 20 ad 22 of the Postal Services Directive; Notes the important of rural broadband in this regard to ensure the continuation and future growth of services and the need for government commitment to ensure continued levels of service;
