  OBJECTIVE: amending, in order to bring them into line with the TEU, Directives 66/400/EEC, 66/402/EEC, 66/403/EEC, 69/208/EEC, 70/457/EEC and 70/458/EEC concerning the marketing of beetseed, fodder plant seed, cereal seed, seed potatoes, seed of oil and fibre plants and vegetable seed, and concerning the common catalogue of varieties of agricultural plants. SUBSTANCE: the abovementioned directives are in the process of being officially consolidated. They are also the subject of a Commission proposal which makes numerous amendments to the Directives in order to update them and bring them into line with the single market concept. It is therefore proposed to replace the abbreviation 'EEC' with the abbreviation 'EC' in the provisions of the said directives on packaging and labelling. Existing stocks of labels bearing the abbreviation 'EEC' may continue to be used until 31 December 1996. �
