  In adopting the report by Alan GILLIS, (PPE, IRL), Parliament approved the proposal for a regulation with technical amendments. It proposed inter alia that: - certain measures provided for in Regulation (EEC) No 1765/92) should be suspended for the 1996/1997 harvest, -the cultivation of leguminous forage crops and mixtures (clover mixture, hay, lucerne, etc.) should be authorized for set-aside land but should be excluded from any other form of aid. �

  OBJECTIVE: derogating from the 18% set-aside rate (basic rate proposed as part of the 1996 -1997 price package) for cereals sown for the 1997-1998 marketing year. SUBSTANCE: the proposal for the A Council Regulation is intended to set the set-aside-rate at 5% for cereals sown for the 1997-1998 marketing year. A set-aside rate of 5% makes it necessary to adjust the increase in the set-aside percentage to be applied in the event of a transfer by lowering it to 1 %. �
