    PURPOSE : Commission proposal for a Council Regulation adjusting, for the sixth time, the system of aid for cotton introduced by Protocol 4 annexed to the Act of Accession of Greece. CONTENT : This measure updates Protocol 4 which establishes a maximum guaranteed quantity. The Community rules governing the arrangements for cotton are based on the Protocol and supplemented by Council Regulation 1964/87/EEC, which has been amended four times. In addition Council Regulation 1554/95/EC lays down the general rules for the system of aid. Since this legislative arrangement is complex, the proposal amends Protocol 4.�
