summary
The European Parliament endorsed the resolution urging the Commission to come forward with its Communication on the information strategy. The House takes the view that all EU institutions should coordinate their information and communication activities and focus on specific target groups, such as young people, in order to maximise effectiveness. The information and communication policy should revolve around two axes, i.e. the education dimension and the use of appropriate means such as financial and media mechanisms that are designed to meet the public's expectations. Moreover, the Parliament stresses the need to improve information and communication on EU matters which affect citizens in their daily lives. Information campaigns should be launched on the problems and challenges associated with enlargement. Lastly, information and communication activities on EU matters must be aimed at promoting public debate and awareness.
