The European Parliament adopted the resolution drafted by Elmar BROK (EPP-ED, Germany) and approved the proposal to update the partnership and co-operation agreement (PCA) between the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and the EU following enlargement of the Union.
\nPURPOSE: to update the partnership and\n co-operation agreement (PCA) between the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and the EU\n following the accession of ten new Member States.
LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council and Commission Decision 2006/712/EC, Euratom on the conclusion of\n the Protocol to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement establishing a partnership\n between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part,\n and the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, of the other part, to take account of the\n accession of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of\n Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of\n Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of\n Slovenia, and the Slovak Republic to the European Union
CONTENT: following the accession of ten new Member States to the\n EU in May 2004, the Council authorised the Commission to open negotiations\n with the Republic of Kyrgyzstan to update the previously agreed partnership\n and co-operation agreement by drawing up a Protocol to the PCA. The Protocol\n itself covers certain technical adjustments linked to institutional and legal\n developments within the EU and seeks to reflect the EU's new landscape\n following enlargement. The Protocol was signed\n on behalf of the EC and the Member States on 30 April 2004 in accordance with Council Decision 2006/711/EC. Pending its entry into force, the Protocol has\n been applied on a provisional basis as from the date of accession. This\n Decision concludes the Protocol.
