PURPOSE : to extend for one year transitional measures in Regulation 2092/91/EEC on organic production of agricultural\n products and indications referring thereto on agricultural products and\n foodstuffs.
PROPOSED ACT :\n Council Regulation
CONTENT : Article 11(6) of Regulation 2092/91/EEC\n sets out that competent authorities of the Member States can grant\n authorisations to market products imported from a third country not included\n in the list referred to in paragraph 1 point (a) of that Article, until 31\n December 2005.
In its Communication of 10 June 2004 concerning the European\n Action Plan for Organic Food and Farming, the Commission announced that it\n will propose an amendment to Regulation 2092/91/EEC replacing the current\n derogations for imports by a new permanent system making use of technical\n equivalency evaluations by bodies assigned by the Community for that purpose.\n Sufficient time is needed to develop and establish this new permanent system.\n In the meantime, trade in organic products should not be unnecessarily\n disrupted and therefore the existing transitional measures should be extended\n for another year. Accordingly, the date \"31 December 2005\" is\n replaced by the date \"31 December 2006\" in Article 11.
The measure\n does not entail any financial consequences for the Community budget.
\nThe committee adopted the report by its chairman, Joseph DAUL\n (EPP-ED, FR) approving the proposal unamended under the consultation\n procedure.
\nThe European Parliament approved the resolution drafted by\n Joseph DAUL (EPP-ED, FR) and approved the Commission’s proposal.
