PURPOSE: to codify Council Directive 89/104/EEC to approximate the laws of the\n Member States relating to trade marks.
PROPOSED ACT:\n Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council.
CONTENT: the\n purpose of this proposal is to codify Council\n Directive 89/104/EEC to approximate the laws of the Member States relating to\n trade marks. In codifying legislative acts that have\n been amended frequently the EU is seeking to both simplify and clarify EU\n legislation.
The new\n Directive will supersede the various acts incorporated in it. It fully preserves\n the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them\n together, with only such formal amendments as are required by the\n codification exercise itself.
\nThe committee adopted the report by\n Hans-Peter MAYER (EPP-ED, D) approving unamended - under the 1st\n reading of the codecision procedure - the Commission proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council to\n approximate the laws of the Member States relating to trade marks (codified\n version).
\nThe European\n Parliament adopted the resolution drafted by Hans-Peter\n MAYER (EPP-ED, D), approving the Commission proposal for\n a directive to approximate the laws of the Member States relating to trade\n marks (codified version).
\nThe corrigendum to this Directive does\n not concern the English version of this text.
