The Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted the\nown-initiative report by Francisco José MILLÁN MON (EPP,\nES) containing a motion for a non-legislative resolution on the\ndraft Council decision on the conclusion on behalf of the Union of\nthe Framework Agreement between the European Union and its Member\nStates, of the one part, and Australia, of the other\npart;
\nIn 2016, the EU was Australias second\nlargest trading partner its second source of imports (19.3\n%) and third destination for exports (10.3 %). The EU and Australia\ncelebrated 55 years of cooperation and diplomatic relations\nin 2017 and on 7 August 2017, they concluded a Framework\nAgreement.
\nThe report stressed that the EU, as a global\nactor, should further strengthen its presence in the large and\ndynamic Asia-Pacific area, where Australia is a natural partner of\nthe EU as well as an important actor itself.
