PURPOSE: to approve the conclusion by Eurojust of the\nagreement on cooperation between Eurojust and Albania.
\nPROPOSED ACT: Council implementing\ndecision.
\nROLE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: the Council adopts\nthe act after consulting the European Parliament but without being\nobliged to follow its opinion.
\nBACKGROUND: Decision 2002/187/JHA provides that Eurojust may conclude agreements with\nthird States and organisations. Such agreements may concern the\nexchange of information, including personal data and the secondment\nof liaison officers or liaison magistrates to Eurojust. Such\nagreements may only be concluded after consultation by Eurojust\nwith the Joint Supervisory Body concerning the provisions on data\nprotection and after approval by the Council.
\nIn order to strengthen its capacity to work with\nAlbania, Eurojust has negotiated an agreement on cooperation\nbetween Eurojust and Albania.
\nAlbania has ratified the Council of Europe Convention\nand its Additional Protocol, regarding supervisory authorities and\ntransborder data flows. The Joint Supervisory Body of Eurojust gave\na positive opinion on the provisions of the agreement concerning\ndata protection.
\nThe agreement was approved by the College of Eurojust\non 19 September 2017.
\nCONTENT: under the draft Council implementing\nDecision, Eurojust shall be authorised to conclude the agreement\non cooperation between Eurojust and Albania.
\nThe agreement\nincludes provisions on the exchange of personal data.
\nDenmark, the United Kingdom and Ireland shall take\npart in the adoption and application of this Decision.
