Details

The Committee on Budgetary Control adopted the report by Indrek TARAND (Greens/EFA, EE) on the nomination of Ivana Maletić as a Member of the Court of Auditors.

The committee assessed the credentials of the nominated candidate, in particular in view of the requirements laid down in Article 286(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

The committee recommended that the European Parliament give a favourable opinion on the Council’s nomination of Ivana Maletić as a Member of the Court of Auditors.

Ivana Maletić has been a Member of the European Parliament (ECON, REGI and BUDG Committees) since July 2013. Prior to that, she worked for 14 years in the Croatian Ministry of Finance, where she was responsible for setting up the management system for pre-accession assistance programmes. She is a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

As a Member of the European Parliament, she was responsible for the launch and publication of the periodical I'M, in which she published more than 30 articles and participated in the drafting of special editions on the use of EU funds for young people, entrepreneurs, local units and smart villages, as well as a special edition on the European Fund for Strategic Investments.

In her responses to the questionnaire, the candidate stated:

- be willing to exercise her duties in complete independence by always working in the best interests of the European Union;

- have (neither her nor her relatives) interests in business activities or commitments or actions within companies that may be incompatible with her future responsibilities;

- be prepared to inform the President of the Court of its financial interests and any other commitment on her part, and to make her declaration of interests public;

- intend to resign from the position of Vice-President of the party of which she is a member and to renounce any position of responsibility within the political party;

- promote zero tolerance for fraud and corruption.

The candidate stressed that it is important that representatives of the Court participate in discussions on EU programmes and policies at the Parliament as well as in thematic reports of Members of the European Parliament and the European Parliament Research Service (EPRS), in order for them to be able to react to problems and weaknesses pointed out by Members and prepare Court’s thematic reports with recommendations for improving the system.
