Calls on the Commission strongly to support the Erasmus programme and to reject any model under which students are required to finance themselves, whether through bank loans or by other means; notes that since its inception in 1987 the Erasmus programme has enabled more than 2.2 million students to be mobile within the EU, and has made a significant contribution to mobility in European higher education;
