Stresses that the innovations currently taking place in plastics production (not least in the field of nanotechnology) and their impact on the management of plastic waste raise new challenges to health and safety at work, and calls on the Commission to considerrespond accordingly to these challenges in future action on plastic waste;

Underlines the fact that appropriate levels of training and skills are needed for eco-innovations to flourish, and for EU waste legislation to be implemented correctly; recalls, in this context, that the European Social Fund cshould be helpful in preparingused to help the labour force prepare for an increased demand for quality green jobs, in line with the Social Investment package presented by the Commission in February 2013.
