Points out that energy from the seas and oceans, be it in the form of fossil fuels and above all in the form of renewables, has great potential from the point of view of utilising domestic resources and, diversifying energy sources and contributing to EU energy security objectives ; Highlights in this respect the importance of investments in research and innovation in renewable energies and storage technologies including marine energy ; stresses that prospection for, and the exploitation of, these resources has to allow for technology transfer requirements, especially as regards the training of skilled and highly qualified workers, as well as meeting stringent environmental sustainability criteria; draws attention to the potential multiplier effect of these activities in terms of jobs and related activities, both upstream and downstream;
