Considers that the Commission, particularly in State aid proceedings, must examine more rigorously the facts which States provide and improve fact security, since attempts are increasingly being made to flout the legal position and the conditions or to seek more or fewer borderline compromises, and to adopt legislation in the Member States which ‘formally’ legalises agreements adversely affecting other Member States and the EU as a whole;

Given that some Member States continue to impose extremely high rates of VAT on food, which has a significant impact on the development of inflation as well as on consumers’ healthy eating options, calls on the Commission to draw up proposals for the Member States regarding taxes on food so that significant distortion of competition can be avoided;
