Considers that the protection of geographical indications should be a sine qua non in trade negotiations with third countries, especially the USA, environmental and health standards and the preservation of the European livestock sector make it necessary to suspend negotiations on free trade agreements with the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; for the same reasons, considers that it would be inappropriate to reopen discussions with MERCOSUR members;

Stresses the importance of progress regarding phytosanitary barriers, paying particular attention toespecially regarding the red lines drawn by the European Union that might have implications for the health of consumers; considers that it should not be possible to import into the EU agricultural products which are not permitted to be produced there.
