Underlines that the EVFTA includes a robust, comprehensive and binding chapter on Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) dealing with labour and environmental matters; stresses that the TSD chapter is designed to contribute to broader EU policy objectives, notably on inclusive growth, the fight against climate change and more generally in upholding EU values; emphasises that it is also an instrument for development and social progress in Vietnam to support Vietnam innecessary to ask Vietnam to step up its efforts to improve labour rights and to enhance protection at work and protection of the environment, given that these are also instruments for development and social progress in that country;

Points out that, in the event of non-compliance with the binding clauses of the chapter on Trade and Sustainable Development, the agreement only provides for appropriate measures to be taken and not suspension of the agreement itself; calls, therefore, on the Commission to provide more clarification and to ensure suspension of the agreement in the event of serious infringements of human rights and environmental clauses;
