Recalls that innovative transport technologies and mobility solutions will be needed to enhance road safety and limit air pollution and congestion, and that a European regulatory framework which stimulates innovation is needed; calls, in this context, for more interlinked research and development regarding connected and automated cars, electrification, alternative fuels, vehicle design and manufacturing, network and traffic management, as well as smart mobility services and infrastructure; points out, indeed, that connected and automated cars can reduce emissions and contribute to reducing deaths from road accidents, but that in order to do so they must have appropriate infrastructure;
