Is particularly worried by the situation of women and the persistence of harmful traditional practices, such as the high number of dowry deaths, honor killings, sex-selective abortion, sati, devadasi, women accused of witchcraft and early and forced marriages; laments that women participation in the society and access to essential services has been stifled by the lack of registration, financial barriers and bureaucratic difficulties in obtaining identity cards, particularly in the case of women from scheduled castes and tribes; calls on the authorities to better enforce existing legislation protecting women, properly register and investigate cases of violence against women and girls and to consider marital rape as a criminal offence;
