Notes that austerity policiesthe introduction of the Euro caused an interest rate convergence among the Euro Area and induced a credit-financed boom in the countries in Europe's periphery; notes further that after the burst of the bubble austerity policies were deemed necessary in a number of Member States and have contributed to stagnation and recession, with damaging effects on euro area members’ public accounts, levels of unemployment and social cohesion; states the fact that these member states cannot cope with their debt burden via austerity policy making a debt relief the only possible starting point to solve the underlying causes of the crisis;
