Calls on the Commission and Member States to develop strategies between local authorities, civil society and economic players in mountain ranges in order to determine joint action plans for the promotion, development and protection of the mountain ranges in question; welcomes and supports in this regard the Alpine macro-regional strategy initiative; stresses furthermore the traditional natural and cultural heritage of mountain regions, which the EU should protect, particularly against excessive burdens such as traffic passing through them;
