It would also make it easier to conduct an overall assessment of national strategies and take corrective measures when the results deviate from the aims set at the planning stage;

Emphasises the importance of greater promotion of actions to protect the environment, with clear targets being set and the Member States being encouraged to draw up operational programmes in this respect. POs should be conducting operational programmes that can help to protect the environment by focusing on two key factors: on the one hand, promoting the spread of environmentally friendly production methods, such as integrated organic farming, and, on the other, more specific actions to save water, cut emissions and, above all, improve waste management;
