Stresses that technological innovation offers a means of moving more quickly and more cheaply towards a more efficient and sustainable European transport system by focusing on three main factors, namely: vehicle efficiency, addressed through the use of new engines, materials and design; cleaner energy use, addressed through the introduction of new fuels and drive systems; and better use of transport networks, addressed through the deployment of information and communication technology;
