1. Underlines the EIB’s important role in the implementation of cohesion policy throughat the EIB is treaty- bound to contribute to economic and social cohesion and regional development through its primary lending activity by means of dedicated investment instruments, thus playing an important role supporting Member States and regions to implement their cohesion policy goals, including through advisory activities aimed at strengthening project preparation capacities, consultancy and analysis services and loans for national co- financing;

Calls on the EIB to present an additional special chapters in its annual report dedicated to EIB activities aimed atthe effect from EIB activities on reducing divergences between Member States as well as on the Bank’s activities aimed at supporting the implementation of cohesion policy by Member States, and to include detailed information on the use of loans in cohesion policy projects and programmes;

EmphasisUnderlines that the EIB, as an public financial institution through which the EU finances projects aimed at fulfilling EU policies and priorities, should contribute to economic, social and territorial cohesion; notices however including regarding less developed regions; is concerned and regrets that, according to the geographical breakdown of lending by country in which projects are located, five Member States, the biggest EU economies, received 54.11 % of the total loans granted in 2016;

Welcomes the fact that, in 2016, more than 50 % of the total approved loans were invested in the transport, energy, industry and water and waste management sectors, which indicates thematic concentration; is concerned, however, by the low levels of investments in social infrastructure and the social economy and is of the opinion that rebalancing of the Bank's financing priorities is required; underlines that projects supporting the revitalisation of rural and other less populated, less accessible, deindustrialized and underdeveloped areas should have priority in all sectors;
