Points out that one of the EU’s fundamental principles, as enshrined in Article 17 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, is that of respecting the identity and recognising the specific contribution of churches and maintaining an open, transparent and regular dialogue with them; calls on the Ukrainian authorities to improve their relations with the Orthodox Church and with the Catholic Church, and to base those relations on friendly dialogue and mutual understanding;
