Ab. whereas the term feminicide is grounded in the legal definition of violence against women which is laid down in Article 1 of the Belém do Pará Convention: ‘violence against women shall be understood as any act or conduct, based on gender, which causes death or physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, whether in the public or the private sphere’;

Recalls that the EU plan of action on gender equality and women’s empowerment in development is one of the fundamental tools of the EU to improve gender equality in third countries and therefore believes that GAP2 should take the form of a Commission communication; calls on the Commission to take into account EP’s resolution on the renewal of the GAP;
