Draws attention to the link between people-trafficking and the problem of missing persons in Europe; stresses the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the particular suffering of relatives of missing persons, given the particular legal, social and emotional nature of such cases; takes the view that this strategy should be launched with a Commission communication on this issue;

Considers that this strategy should focus on stepping up judicial and police cooperation, particularly during the initial phase following the reporting of disappearance suspected of being connected to a criminal offence, particularly in cross-border areas. Adds that training for the relevant staff should be promoted – with a special emphasis on caring for those affected by events – with the strong support of, and cooperation with, civil society organisations working in this field;
