Calls on the Commission to look into the sources, distribution, fate and effects of both macro- and micro-plastics in the context of storm water management in the ongoing fitness check on the Water Framework Directive and the Floods Directive; reminds Member States, in this connection, of the need to check the lower outlets of dams and reservoirs and to consider opening them periodically in order to prevent them from becoming blocked by sediments or plastics that could pose a threat to the safety of these sites;
