Stresses that the only reference to fishing is to ‘fishing-for-litter actions’ and that, however important it is for fishers to take part in the clean-up of the oceans, it is imperative that the socioeconomic impact of this sector be taken into account, since fisheries is the oldest activity of the blue economy;

Notes that, if the strategy is to be truly effective, the role of the regions must be strengthened, and above all that of the outermost regions, in particular because they are home to a significant proportion of European biodiversity, but also because these regions are greatly dependent of blue economy for their social and economic sustainability;

Believes that the Atlantic Strategy should incorporate links with the Farm to Fork Strategy and the Biodiversity Strategy, in order to guarantee synergy between these initiatives; The fisheries and aquaculture sectors play a key role providing healthy food with reduced carbon foot print, and the interconnection of the Atlantic Strategy with both strategies is essential;
