Underlines that the need to successfully reconcile professional and family obligations often represents a major barrier to women advancing their scientific and academic careers, and represents one of the major reasons for them dropping out of those careers; for these reasons, it calls on the Commission not to withdraw the new proposal of the so-called Maternity Leave Directive;
