Considers it important to further develop the TEN-T to focus on the interconnection between the core and comprehensive networks in rural, peripheral and outermost regions and islands, while ensuring that timely and sufficient funding stimulates also the part of the comprehensive network not covered by the core network, in order to prevent increasing imbalances with particular attention into rural, peripheral and outermost regions and islands; underlines that completing the many missing cross- border rail links of small and medium scale beyond the core axes ought to contribute to socio-economic development in the concerned rural areas and foster transnational regional integration and European cohesion; stresses that no major changes to the maps should be made; calls on the Commission to take over all adjustments laid down in the revision of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)8 ; reminds that the CEF is the key financing instrument for bridging missing links and removing bottlenecks within TEN-T network; _________________ 8 In particular, the adjustments laid down in Part III of the Annex (to the European Parliament legislative resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)).
