Calls for new political priorities to be financed within the agreed budgetary ceilings in order to prevent an ever increasing financial burden on citizens, many of whom are going through financially difficult times; emphasises in this regard that budget cuts should not be considered taboo as a solution of last resort in order to protect the financial integrity of the EU;
