(9 a) With NextGenerationEU, the Union has taken on substantial amounts of public debt. This requires a higher level of accountability from Union Institutions so that the public, as well as political decision makers, receive the complete picture of the Union's fiscal situation. Therefore, the Union's statistical accounts should be reviewed by the Commission to not only encompass national data, but also relevant data from Union institutions.

Article 4 a Inclusion of Accounts of European Institutions By 1 January 2024, the Commission shall review Regulation (EU) No 549/2013 in order to incorporate the accounts of Union institutions in the framework of statistical accounts, and shall submit a report thereon to the European Parliament and to the Council. Where appropriate, that report shall be accompanied by a legislative proposal .
