Recognises that poverty is another form of discrimination that leads to the violation of fundamental rights; calls on the Commission, the Council and the Member States to develop policies to reduce poverty, paying particular attention to children; and to promote economic growth and competitiveness as this is the only way poverty can be combated in the long term; moreover, in the fight against poverty the conditions of children should be the subject of special consideration
