Paragraph 6
6. Underlines that the Biodiversity Strategy’s actions must adequately tackle all five main direct drivers of change in nature: changes in land and sea use; direct exploitation of organisms; climate change; pollution; and invasive alien species; invasive species, including alien, introduced, naturalised or any type of non-native species; notes that it is essential for the protection and restoration of native biodiversity to ensure the balance of animal species, particularly those that are now overabundant as a result of strict protection in past decades, leading to excellent reproduction and exponential increases of individuals, but today posing problems of damage to fish stocks, crops, livestock farms, as well as safety problems affecting the mobility of persons; underlines, too, that invasive species pose a danger to, and are detrimental to, native species that are often less resilient and more fragile; notes that proper control of overabundance of animal species can be achieved through ethical and sustainable hunting, including within protected areas, as a useful instrument for control and balance instrument, helping to prevent one species from competing with or prevailing over another, especially invasive alien species in relation to native species;
