4. Further to its numerous requests for the full application of the provisions of the Schengen acquis in Bulgaria and Romania, requests the Council to take an immediate decision on the abolition of checks at the internal land, sea and air borders of those two Member States;

Calls on the Commission and the Council to prevent anything compromising the purpose of this mechanism, namely to determine whether all the preconditions for lifting internal border controls with a candidate country have been met and to ensure compliance with the Schengen acquis on the part of those Member States in which it is fully established; points to the particular situation of Bulgaria and Romania, which should be included in the Schengen evaluation and monitoring cycles following adoption of the accession decision, given that their own evaluation has been successfully completed; in this context, reiterates its call on the Council to take an immediate decision regarding the full application of the Schengen acquis in these two Member States;
