Welcomes the fact that the common agricultural policy (CAP) seeks to enhance the welfare of on-farm animals by providing financial incentives and by focusing on the enforcement of animal welfare legislation; calls on the Member States to offer greater and effective support to farmers who voluntarily comply with more stringent and sustainable animal welfare requirements, including through national support programmes;
