Deplores the lack of effective implementation of EU directives that aim to establish criminal liability of legal persons for environmental offences1 ; stresses the urgent need to update such legislation and to find more effective implementation means; calls on the Commission and the Member States to allocate appropriate financial and human resources to preventing, investigating and prosecuting environmental crimes; _________________ 1 Directive 2004/35/CE on environmental liability with regard to the prevention and remedying of environmental damage, Directive 2008/99/EC on the protection of the environment through criminal law, and Directive 2009/123/EC amending Directive 2005/35/EC.
