Recognises that the public's right of access to documents of the Union's institutions is the protected and inalienable right of every EU citizen directly emanating from the democratic principle, so that a corresponding obligation of the Union of compliance and accountability is established. The European Parliament stresses the need to further promote the relevant institutions of transparency, such as the Office of Ombudsman, so that the Union meets its obligation referred to above:
