Highlights that misleading ads, misuse of official statistics and false claims played a role in the United Kingdom's 2016 referendum to leave the European Union; calls for more pro- active information campaigns to better present and explain EU's functioning and policies in the Member States; encourages the Commission to come up with a new proposal that will allow the funding of European political parties and European political foundations from the general budget of the European Union to be used to finance referenda in Member States, that deals with issues related to the European Union;
