Underlines the importance of enhancing increased European cooperation in defence matters since it not only makes Europe and its citizens safer, but also leads to a cost reduction, which means that more money is available for other pressing matters; in this light very much rejects cuts to the European Defence Fund and calls for a significant increase in this field;

Reiterates its firm belief that in countries of specific strategic interest for the EU, particularly the accession countries and the associated countries of the Eastern Partnership, a closer link between the Parliament and the respective national parliaments should be established, and therefore calls for adequate funding to ensure additional staff to enhance the important field of parliamentary cooperation;
