Stresses that in some EU mountain areas, particularly in the new Member States, there is a growing risk of depopulation and an impoverishment of the social lives of local communities, which are also facing the threat of a curtailment or even a discontinuation of farming, which would result in changes to the landscape and the ecosystem;
