Points out that, in light of the WTO crisis and growing US protectionism, the European Union is faced with the opportunity and the necessity of becoming a creator of global solutions in international trade, owing, among other things, to its extensive experience in harmonising standards acquired during the construction of the common market or in the process of integrating countries from the former socialist bloc into it;
