Continued financial and military support to Ukraine by EU Member States
Desde el inicio de la agresión ilegal de Rusia contra Ucrania hemos defendido el legítimo derecho de Ucrania a defenderse, así como a recibir ayuda para llevar a cabo dicha labor. Creemos, sin embargo, que toda cooperación con Ucrania debe estar gobernada por un objetivo político: lograr una paz justa y duradera que tenga en cuenta las legítimas aspiraciones del pueblo ucraniano. Para ello, creemos que es imprescindible un nuevo esfuerzo diplomático en Ucrania, de forma alineada con los intereses y tiempos de la parte agredida, bajo el patrocinio de las Naciones Unidas.Esta Resolución no busca caminar hacia la paz, sino parte de la escalada belicista que recorre Europa. Por ello, no podemos apoyar un texto que, aunque hace referencia a la voluntad de alcanzar finalmente la paz, rechaza dar pasos hacia la misma.Continuaremos apoyando a Ucrania frente a la invasión ilegítima e ilegal de Putin para hacer posible una negociación de paz equilibrada, exploraremos todas las vías diplomáticas posibles para lograr un alto el fuego, trabajaremos para reforzar la ayuda humanitaria y apostaremos por una reconstrucción del país orientada al bienestar de las mayorías ucranianas y no al beneficio de las grandes multinacionales.
Establishing the Ukraine Loan Cooperation Mechanism and providing exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine
Hemos votado a favor del establecimiento del Mecanismo de cooperación con Ucrania en materia de préstamos y de la concesión de asistencia macrofinanciera excepcional porque estamos firmemente comprometidas con la ayuda a Ucrania para protegerse de la brutal invasión rusa. Desde el comienzo de la agresión hemos sostenido que Ucrania tiene derecho a defenderse y hemos apoyado la asistencia de la UE.Esta asistencia macrofinanciera, sin embargo, ha estado condicionada en anteriores ocasiones a la privatización de compañías públicas ucranianas, generando importantes subidas de precios en el sector de la energía, por ejemplo, o a la estabilización de las finanzas públicas del país. La ayuda europea a Ucrania no puede suponer un perjuicio para el pueblo ucraniano y su acceso a servicios esenciales.Por ello, consideramos que no puede repetirse esta condicionalidad dañina y que el Parlamento Europeo debería poder examinar el memorando de entendimiento antes de ser aplicado. Hay quienes quieren aprovechar la tragedia del pueblo ucraniano para aumentar sus beneficios económicos, también con la reconstrucción del país, pero vamos a seguir trabajando para lograr que la ayuda esté centrada en las necesidades de la mayoría social del país.

Activities of the European Ombudsman – annual report 2023
La labor del Defensor del Pueblo Europeo es fundamental. Aunque el informe sobre su actividad en 2023 recoge aspectos positivos, me he abstenido porque no refleja plenamente la valentía y el alcance de su trabajo. No se han aprobado las enmiendas que propusimos para incluir las conclusiones y recomendaciones sobre las investigaciones realizadas a Frontex por su complicidad en abusos y violaciones de los derechos de las personas migrantes en las fronteras exteriores de la UE.La Defensora del Pueblo ha denunciado la responsabilidad de la UE en la muerte de casi 700 personas en el naufragio del Adriana, cerca de las costas griegas, y ha exigido una investigación independiente sobre las muertes de migrantes en el Mediterráneo, junto con medidas urgentes para evitar nuevas tragedias. Además, ha instado a la Comisión Europea a garantizar que los fondos destinados a la gestión fronteriza de Grecia y Túnez no contribuyan a más violaciones de derechos humanos. Estas cuestiones fundamentales han sido deliberadamente ignoradas en el informe.Un informe que silencia estas denuncias desvirtúa el trabajo de la Defensora y perpetúa la impunidad de estas prácticas. Mi abstención refleja la necesidad de un compromiso real de este Parlamento con los derechos humanos y con las personas migrantes y refugiadas.
Setting up a special committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union, and defining its responsibilities, numerical strength and term of office
Creemos que es extremadamente importante abordar la crisis de la vivienda desde la perspectiva europea, y el Parlamento es crucial para proponer soluciones que realmente funcionen para la gente. Por ello es nuestra prioridad que esta comisión especial sobre vivienda se aborde desde el prisma social, como derecho fundamental que es la vivienda. Necesitamos más vivienda social y pública, la intervención de los mercados tensionados, el control de las viviendas destinadas a estancia de corta duración y acabar con las prácticas especulativas. Vamos a trabajar para conseguir una solución social a esta crisis social.
