Notes that as a result of changing demographics, it is estimated that by 2030 the ratio of active to inactive people will be 2:1; calls on the Commission and Member States to develop policies to ensure that carers many of whom are obliged to withdraw from the labour market due to caring responsibilities are not adversely effected by pension insecurity;

Calls on the Commission and Member States to develop educational programmes aimed at young adults to highlight the importance of investing in private pension schemes early which could play a significant role in reducing public spending on pensions in the future and could reduce the risk of falling into the poverty trap after retirement;
