Recognises that adequacy decisions, including partial and sector- specific ones, are a fundamentalconstitute an important mechanism in terms of safeguarding the transfer of personal data from the EU to a third country; notes with concern that the EU has only adopted adequacy decisions with four of its 20 largest trading partners; recalls that adequacy decisions do not guarantee the transfer of personal data from third countries to the EU nor provide guarantees for the transfer of non-personal data;

Calls on the Commission to draw up ambitious rules for cross-border data transfers, including through FTAs, in full compliance with, and without prejudice to, the EU’s data protection and privacy ruleswithout prejudice to data protection and privacy rules provided they are applied in a manner which would not constitute a means of arbitrary or unjustifiable discrimination or a disguised restriction on trade, and that does not impose restrictions on transfers of information greater than are required to achieve the objective;
